Summer Game Fest is never without its ultimate announcement at the end of the show, and this year Capcom got to hold that spot with its announcement of Resident Evil 9, officially known as Resident Evil Requiem.
The game, which was teased throughout the broadcast, was finally revealed at the tail end of the show with a reveal trailer featuring new protagonist, Grace Ashmore.

Grace Ashcroft is an FBI agent who is investigating a string of deceased individuals who have fallen victim to an unidentified disease. Her superior, FBI Special Agent Dempsy dispatches Grace to a new crime scene at The Wrenwood Hotel, where her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, was murdered 8 years prior. Fans of 2003’s Resident Evil Outbreak would be familiar to the name Alyssa Ashcroft who was an investigative reporter for Raccoon Press, and a playable character in the game.
It’s revealed in the trailer that at some point during Grace’s investigation, she will end up at the ruins of Raccoon City, including the Raccoon City Police Department, the main setting for Resident Evil 2.
Capcom are describing Requiem as “a new era of survival horror”. What does that mean? We won’t find out until later in the year when we get a closer look at the game.
