BADUM DADUM. With the next James Bond on the horizon, IO Interactive has revealed the Bond theme for 007 First Light! Lana Del Rey has FINALLY got her own Bond theme. Titled First Light, the track already walks a much different line than its recent film cousins, as Lana Del Rey muses about 007 being reckless and playing his life like a game – clever. The studio also revealed the title sequence, which leans right into that same classic animated opening we’ve come to expect from the franchise.
After the Daniel Craig era of James Bond themes, there’s something so exciting to see Bond pulled back to his youth, and Lana Del Rey’s theme sets that scene perfectly. The track feels hopeful, yet coy about Bond’s exploits both as a spy and charmer. It also feels much more hopeful compared to recent Bond themes, it will be really interesting to see if we see 007 First Light spawn a franchise and what the theme will evolve into.
I’m in love with this track as a Bond theme and frankly think it’s criminal we haven’t had Lana Del Rey on the theme till now. She’s clearly got the vibe down, and personally I like how the song plays into that grandiose nature of the spycraft with ease. I struggle to imagine any other music artist but Lana Del Rey helming 007 First Light.
The new take on James Bond from IO Interactive – known for the Hitman series definitely has a handle on the brief, however they’ve promised this won’t just be a reskin of Agent 47’s exploits as an assassin.
Lana Del Rey’s 007 First Light Bond Theme also scored the Hideo Kojima tick of approval earlier this week.
007 First Light is out May 27 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
