Amongst the huge amount of announcements to come out of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, it was confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would be launching on Nintendo Switch 2 on the console’s release date of June 5, 2025.
Nintendo has confirmed on the official Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom pages that the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade of the games will be available for free to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members as long as they own the original games on Nintendo Switch.
What’s different in the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions?
With the much more powerful capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, both Zelda titles will offer the following features:
- Enhanced resolution, improved textures and HDR support
- Smoother frame rates
- Faster load times
- Additional save slot
- Compatibility with ZELDA NOTES via the Nintendo Switch App for compatible smart devices.
It remains unclear how much the Switch 2 upgrades will cost for non-Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Members, but what we do know is that the physical Nintendo Switch 2 Editions cost $109.95 at EB Games for those who don’t own the game already.
