Elfcat Studio’s debut game has officially been revealed. Buru and The Old People follows a retired thief who just so happens to also be a white ibis. Please, no bin chicken jokes for this distinguished gentleman either. The studio dropped a trailer for the game along with the game’s Steam page, teasing the game’s story and D&D-inspired mini-games featuring an eclectic bunch of anthropomorphic Australian animals. Bin chickens certainly get a bad rap, so it’s certainly refreshing to see a game centring on the white ibis that doesn’t play into the usual memes. Bururrgan or Buru for short, has returned to Pincher’s Cove to make some money. One final job. Yet Buru soon learns of a darkness up in the mountains that just might complicate things if you let it.
Funded by Screen Australia and Screen NSW, the game is Elfcat Studios’ first project. The team consists of indigenous people in all key creative roles. I am really looking forward to seeing more of this game given it’s deep cultural roots.
