It’s official! The next Mario Movie will be themed around the beloved Super Mario Galaxy games. The news was revealed during last nights bumper one hour Nintendo Direct. While we don’t yet know much about the story, the teaser did briefly show us a glimpse of space.
Chris Pratt, Keegan-Michael Key, Charlie Day, and Anya Taylor Joy will all be returning for the sequel and it’s no wonder. During the direct it was also teased that there were more casting announcements to come in the future for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a hit, making over $1.361 billion with a budget of $100 million. The film announcement lines up perfectly with the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros game release back in 1985.
The first film surprised me a lot so I’m definetly excited to see how they follow it up! With this news, alongside that of the Zelda movie coming in 2027 it’s clear Nintendo is more than warming up to making more movies. My holy grail Nintendo movie would definetly have to be Animal Crossing, maybe one day Tom Nook will get his big screen debut. In the meantime, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie looks it will carry the torch with ease!
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is out in cinemas April 2026.
