Square Enix has had the honour of closing out Nintendo’s latest Partner Direct, announcing two HD-2D games, one of which is Octopath Traveler 0. Octopath Traveler 0 will be released on December 4, 2025 for PS4, PS5, NS, NS2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Octopath Traveler 0 follows your hero as they set off on a journey to seek revenge and rebuild their hometown in the realm of Orsterra. The game blends pixel art and 3D environments the series’s iconic HD-2D visual art style.

Here’s everything we know about Octopath Traveler so far:
- Set in a realm called Orsterra
- The hero’s hometown, Wishvale, is destroyed at the beginning of the game
- Fully customisable protagonist, including: appearance, voice, motion, and even your favourite dish
- More than 30 characters can be recruited to the party
- Up to eight characters can be in the party
- Find resources around the world to rebuild your settlement. You can place buildings and create decorations
- Break and Boost battle system returns
- In battles, eight-character parties are split into two groups: vanguard (front row) and rearguard (back row). Only one group can attack per turn.
- The game has elements and gameplay ideas from mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent

Octopath Traveler 0 will be available as a Standard Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and Collector’s Edition on Square Enix Store. It’s unclear if we will get a local release in Australia, but we will update that information here if it becomes available.
