Better double-check your fuel gauge, Dead Static Drive is just around the corner! Reuben Games has officially announced that the long-awaited title is launching on November 5. Dubbed “Grand Theft Cthulhu” for its eerie drift into Americana and eldritch horror, the game has been in development since 2014 – which is a decent amount of time in the garage!
Dead Static Drive is Grand Theft Cthulhu. An indie survival-horror game following a nightmarish road trip across a 1980s Americana. Evade police. Equip yourself and those close to you, and follow your own moral code. Learn how—and who—to trust. And learn it fast, the monsters are gaining on you.
Over 10 years in development is somewhat of a feat for any indie game, so to see Dead Static Drive finally ready to launch is truly exciting. Gearing up for a road trip on Route 666 definitely isn’t for the faint of heart, though. Not only does the game focus on survival elements in the apocalypse but it also features a branching narrative that allows players to interact with the world more deeply.
I was lucky enough to take the Dead Static Drive demo for a spin during PAX 2019, and I was floored. The whole vibe – that blend of Americana meets the apocalypse as tentacles burst from the ground is hard to forget! I’m really excited to take the full game for a spin and properly sink into this world.
For those eager to get into the zone before Dead Static Drive launches, the game’s composer, Gabe Castro, has revealed several original tracks from the game’s soundtrack on his YouTube channel here.
Dead Static Drive launches November 5 on PC and Xbox Game Pass.
