Melbourne-based indie game studio Searching Interactive has officially announced their debut with a eerie take on the survival horror game genre. Crabmeat sees players put to work as a prisoner of the Feudostate, tasked with crabbing to pay back their debt. Yet, everything isn’t as it seems alone on a government issued vessel deep in the Antarctic. Players will definitely have to keep their wits about them in this short crab-filled horror experience.
A short first-person-point-and-click-survival-horror game set in a future Antarctic fisheries region where you are a prisoner tasked with crabbing for the priceless southern King Crab.
As eerie as it is bizarre, Crabmeat looks like a fever dream fit for any horror fiends after that alt flavour. Of late there’s been a rise in survival horror games that blend work sim elements with a building sense of dread. Think the likes of Order 13, The Boba Teashop or Cabin Factory where the work contiues as the horror builds. With such an isolating setting and Twilight Zone-esque plot, already I’m very unsettled by this one.
The game features the following:
- Explore the Icy Southern Wasteland in your government issued crabbing vessel
- Bait, place, winch and empty traps with the help of various stations on the ship
- Experimental blend of First Person and Point and Click gameplay
- Defend yourself and the ship from the denizens of the sea
- Short 2-3 hour experience
Founded by Nicholas McDonnell, Searching Interactive came to be after the closure of Samurai Punk back in 2023 with some of the team returning along with some new collaborators. Focused on developing games in a more ‘creatively sustainable way’, the studio’s first release is already making waves with over 45,000 views on YouTube. Talk about catch of the day!

You can wishlist Crabmeat on Steam here. It’s set to release later this year.
