Ahoy! Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced – the remake we’ve been eagerly awaiting is almost ours. With a first round of previews teasing the game’s return to form, many have been eager to see the legendary Jackdaw back in all its glory. From sea shanties to cannons blasting across the swells, taking to the waves back in the original game gave players a renewed sense of adventure in the Assassin’s Creed series. While it’s not launching untill July 9, Ubisoft has dropped another deep dive focused entirely on the naval gameplay, perfect for those hungry to know more about how the remake is modernising the game.

The latest Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced deep dive from Ubisoft focuses on the ship gameplay, with the lead Naval Designer – Guilhem Marin, sharing insights into how Resynced has honed the original pirate experience. From the spotlight, the biggest points of focus are:
- Navigation and Exploration
- Aquatic Activities
- Combat
Remaking Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is no small feat, and yet it seems like Ubisoft’s proprietary engine – Anvil, was made for exactly this. Shadows proves this and then some! Aboard the Jackdaw, players can explore the open ocean seamlessly before returning to dry land without so much as a loading screen. There’s also a slew of improvements to immersion with dynamic weather proving hazardous to the Jackdaw even at her most formidable.

The ocean also features a lot more for players to discover. Black Flag players will remember the diving bell, yet in Resynced, there will also be opportunities to dive without it and even find treasure. Diving also features as a stealth mechanic. You’ll be able to use the water to your advantage much more now. I still remember that initial feeling of freedom from Black Flag as you take to the seas. Sea shanties rolling and the Jackdaw at my whims. This is a highlight for me. Anything to fill out that world below the sea has me hooked.
The Jackdaw remains the game’s hub of sorts. In Resynced, its role has been expanded. Players will not only be able to customise the ship but also command Kenway’s allies, mark maps, use autopilot and even recruit an officer that will buff the ship with a variety of perks and abilities. Through combat, players will take on Forts, Legendary Ships and Naval factions much like Black Flag, however they’ve been significantly reworked in the remake to benefit varied playstyles, so expect some challenge here!

A Pirates Life For Me?
Edward Kenway’s pirate-turned-assassin adventures make Black Flag a fan favourite, so I’m really looking forward to any excuse to return to the game, especially when it looks this visually stunning. While there’s not long to wait till it launches, I can’t help but wonder if we might ever see other Assassin’s Creed games given the Resynced treatment. Time will tell. In the meantime, keep a lookout on the horizon for more of our Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, including our review around launch!
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced arrives July 9, 2026, on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
