While Coffee Talk might be what you know them for, Indonesian indie game developer and publisher Toge Productions has many more surprises in store. The studio’s latest game, Kriegsfront Tactics, sees players ditching the coffee brewing and taking up arms in a tactical turn-based roguelite. Taking place in 1970s Southeast Asia, the game sees players playing out an alternate history featuring tactical mecha customization and destructive jungle combat.
Kriegsfront Tactics is a procedural turn-based mecha tactics RPG set in alternate 1970s during an era of conflict in Southeast Asia where you’ll play as a commander of a mecha squad sent behind enemy lines. Build your mecha squad, complete missions, and survive the front another day.
With the support of the ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program, Kriegsfront Tactics is receiving assistance in its development. Given how challenging the indie landscape is, no doubt any support for a studio goes a long way. During an Xbox Asia Developer Session, we got to learn more about Toge Productions’s next game. Kriegsfront Tactics sees players taking up command of a highly advanced mech squad in this turn-based war game. As commander, you have full control of your squad’s actions behind the enemy lines. All bullets are physically simulated, giving players the freedom to take aim at weak spots or scope out tactical vantage points to flank enemies. Guerrilla tactics are encouraged, as the enemy will also be gunning for you.
Set in Nusanesia, the game sees a nation ripped apart as a war rages between the UOC Colonial Government and the newly formed Republic of Nusanesia. Each mission sees players gradually weakening the enemy, though be warned, the longer you’re behind enemy lines, the harder it is to survive. Mech pilots are also a resource, with long deployments leading to their breaking point. As a result, Shellshock will deeply affect the sanity of your mech pilots, so it’s worth considering strategies that quickly resolve mission objectives.

Inspired by the likes of Front Mission, XCOM and Darkest Dungeon, Kriegsfront Tactics sees players planning strategic mech assaults by managing squad resources while engaging in precision combat. Combat also features cutscenes to show cinematic views of combat, giving players an extra close look at the ravages of jungle warfare. Players plan and position their forces, exploring and seeking vantage points to gain the advantage in each mission, hopefully before the enemy forces.
The game utilises procedural world generation, giving each mission a unique spin that adds to its replayability. Mission areas will also be randomly generated, with environmental destruction also being possible, allowing warfare to have a visible effect on the environment. Toge Productions previously referred to the mission maps as “dungeons”, given their unique layout for each deployment.
