After years of speculation, Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy Tactics remake titled Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles. The game will feature both an enhanced version of the game plus the classic version of the game and is set to be released on September 30, 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
Final Fantasy Tactics, originally released in 1997, is a tactical role-playing game set in the kingdom of Ivalice, which is in the middle of a war fought between two factions, called the War of the Lions. Players step into the shoes of Ramza of House Belouve, who becomes entangled in the war by uncovering a sinister plot behind it.
Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles features two versions of the original game – classic and enhanced. Here’s what each offers:
Classic version:
- Original graphics and gameplay
- War of the Lions translation
Enhanced version:
- Renewed UI
- Extensive additions and adjustments to the story
- Fully voiced dialogue
- Fine-tuning of several features and battle mechanics
- New “Squire” difficulty, best utilised by new players

Final Fantasy Tactics remake is available for pre-order on digital stores in a Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition. Players who pre-order the game or the deluxe edition of the game will receive bonus in-game items, which are detailed below.
